Scenario Learning, LLC Continues Record-Setting Growth with Expansion into South Africa
Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) June 07, 2016 -- From a safety perspective, South African schools are in crisis, overrun with violence, physical and sexual abuse, and gang-related activities. The statistics are sobering. Since 2012, more than 750,000 children have been assaulted and another 654,000 have been sexually assaulted or raped in South African schools, and those statistics are estimated to be underreported 50% of the time. In addition, 1.46 million students reported being threatened with violence and teachers and staff members are not immune from violence during the school day either. Instead of focusing on learning, students and staff members are often in fear for their lives.
To help school administrators with this critical issue, the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) has partnered with Scenario Learning, LLC to provide the SafeSchools Online Staff Training System to 35,000 school staff members in 30 districts throughout the province. Based on the success of this introductory phase, the program would be expanded to all districts and staff members in the province.
The ECDoE/Scenario Learning partnership is a result of a three-year collaboration with South African-based Framework Eduworks, a company dedicated to building the capacity of educators to improve student achievement and well being. To support this important project, Scenario Learning has set up operations in Johannesburg to facilitate the successful roll out and implementation of the training system throughout the Eastern Cape.
The SafeSchools Online Training System, the leading K-12 staff training system in the United States, has been customized for the South African market and includes school safety courses written by expert authors from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (Wits University). Using the training system, administrators and staff members now have access to hundreds of web-based courses on a variety of important school safety topics like Bullying Prevention; Child Abuse Identification & Intervention; Drug & Alcohol Abuse: Learner Issues; Learner Mental Health; School Violence: Learner to Learner; Sexual Misconduct: Staff-to-Learner and many more.
The SafeSchools Training System also makes assigning and tracking training compliance easier for Eastern Cape administrators, with automatic email notification of assignments and administrative reports that detail who has and hasn’t taken assigned training.
“School safety is a global issue and we care deeply about the safety of students and teachers around the world,” said Brian Taylor, CEO and Co-Founder of Scenario Learning. “Our SafeSchools Training program has helped thousands of districts increase safety, and it’s rewarding to know it will now bring these same benefits to the Eastern Cape. South Africa is just the beginning for our team. We’re also working with a growing number of school boards throughout Canada and exploring opportunities in other countries as well.”
