Company Announces Leading Cloud-Based Platform for Patient Assistance Solutions Growth at ASCO

onPoint Oncology announced today at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting several milestones in the development of assistPoint, its newest product. assistPoint connects patient assistance programs (PAPs), co-payment programs, and specialty pharmacy services with cancer patients, caregivers, and providers. Increased Incidence of Financial Toxicity
As cancer drug costs have risen, more patients are facing payment issues for their cancer care and oncology providers have responded by seeking improved support from manufacturer programs.. assistPoint now is available to aid all cancer programs, regardless of setting, in sourcing and applying to one or more PAPs as by centralizing and simplifying the integration of patient assistance enrollment and leveraging the full array of resources.

In addition, a consistent theme at this year’s ASCO meeting is the impact of financial toxicity on patient’s lives.

“While physicians have always focused on survival, over the past 20 years, we began thinking about how the physical side effects of cancer treatment affect a patient’s quality of life,” said Jonas de Souza, MD, oncologist and assistant professor, Section of Hematology/Oncology, University of Chicago Medical Center. “This is a daunting side effect – a financial toxicity -- that needs to be addressed in order to more realistically relieve the multiple impacts of cancer and its cost for care.”

Performance Improvement
Increasing types and numbers therapies with high drug costs have increased the number of cancer patients who need financial assistance, and the cumbersome application process is critically limiting to patients and providers. When filed through assistPoint, applications for financial assistance have decreased in time from days or weeks to a few hours, allowing patients to begin treatment that much sooner.
