The Public Is Invited to Cocktails and Silent Auction at the Shelter Island Yacht Club to Support East End Hospice
Shelter Island, NY (PRWEB) June 09, 2016 -- Penelope Moore, licensed associate real estate broker at Saunders & Associates, is pleased to invite the public to “Soar into Summer…Taking Care of Our Island”, a cocktail party with music and silent auction to support East End Hospice at the Shelter Island Yacht Club, 12 Chequit Avenue, Shelter Island, NY on Saturday, June 11th, 2016 between 5:30 and 8:00pm rain or shine.
Sponsoring this event for a second year, Moore wrote, “There are times in my work as a real estate agent when I meet a family whose loved one is being cared for by hospice. There have also been personally painful times when I have worked with a seller who has transitioned to hospice care. My neighbor and a colleague at work, two Shelter Island women I was fortunate to call friends, were also assisted through hospice with compassion and dignity in their last days.”
East End Hospice (EEH) brings hope to the dying and their families and friends. By affirming life, hospice helps people conclude life with comfort and dignity, offering pain alleviation and symptom control in a familiar and caring environment with a team of health care professionals and volunteers who focus on caring and comfort, not cures.
The team at EEH is comprised of healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, hospice aids, social workers and spiritual and bereavement counselors. All are fully trained and specialize in end of life care. Volunteers are also a valued part of the team.
Physicians and nurses manage pain and physical symptoms. Hospice Aides tend to personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding. Social workers look after emotional needs, helping patients with feelings of fear and anxiety, or communication issues with family. They also assist with practical matters, such as insurance benefits and final arrangements. Spiritual counselors provide spiritual care. They may share moments of quiet reflection, guide patients on difficult decisions, or put them in touch with their priest, minister or rabbi. Like most hospices, East End Hospice is multi-denominational: and respects all religious affiliations.
Bereavement staff prepares families and friends for the loss of their loved ones, and provide grief counseling.
Volunteers visit with patients, lending companionship and support. They also help with simple caregiving tasks, such as feeding and personal care. In the home, volunteers may run errands, transport family members, or do light housekeeping chores. Members of the EEH caregiving team collaborate and share information. As part of this effort, patient care conferences are held weekly.
In addition to end of life care, East End Hospice also offers bereavement counseling and sponsors Camp Good Grief, a free summer day camp for children ages 4 to 15 who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
“East End Hospice performs their work with such grace, compassion and dedication, which is palpable when one sees in the interaction with the loved one and their family, “Moore said. “We are truly fortunate to have EEH in our community and I hope everyone will come out to support this wonderful organization.”
