“Help take care of the planet” is a message contained in one of 21 precepts written by L. Ron Hubbard in “The Way To Happiness” booklet distributed by volunteers in Sacramento as part of their efforts to bring attention to the environment and encourage more public awareness and participation.

In recognition of World Environment Day, local volunteers from the Sacramento Chapter of The Way to Happiness Foundation organized an information booth at the North Sacramento Taco Festival over the weekend to spread the precept “Safeguard and Improve your Environment."

Held June 5th each year, “World Environment Day” is the United Nations’ day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries."

The main focus of the information booth was broad distribution of the booklet “The Way to Happiness” which lists 21 precepts as a non-religious common sense moral guide to a happier life. Among those precepts is “Safeguard and Improve your Environment” which has a subheading of “Help take care of the planet.”

It was this message that local Executive Director of the Foundation Greg Patton emphasized as well as the importance of getting booklets out to bring more awareness to our environment. He said, “We want to create a better world and that starts in small places and venues like these to reach the masses and spread these concepts.”

Patton added that the booklet was penned by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard to address cultural problems and a society that needed help. Under the section “Help take care of the planet” Hubbard wrote, “There are many things one can do to help take care of the planet. They begin with the idea that one should. They progress with suggesting to others they should.”

“That is what we did here today in taking these precepts into practical application,” said Patton.

Since its first publication in 1981, more than 100 million copies or "The Way to Happiness" booklet have since been distributed in 205 countries and territories, providing a moral compass for all to live by.
