Audubon Multi-Purpose Field to See Summer Replacement with Shaw Sports Turf
Audubon, New Jersey (PRWEB) June 09, 2016 -- This summer, Audubon will say goodbye to a worn out synthetic turf field and replace it with a new, durable system from Shaw Sports Turf.
The synthetic turf sports field used for soccer, softball, and town events in Audubon hasn’t stood up to heavy use in recent years. Originally intended for young children alone, the surface at Green Wave Park has been showing some age—and use by Audubon High School sports teams has caused quite a bit of damage.
“For safety reasons, we needed to go to a new turf,” said Jon Martin, Commissioner of Public Works, Parks and Public Property. “The Shaw Sports product will be appropriate for all ages. That is huge, because our previous product was low quality, and the big kids tore it up. A better quality field will add safety for our kids and town.”
Martin partnered with Shaw Sports Turf Territory Manager Lee Defreitas to research synthetic turf options and decide which product would best the best fit for the community.
“We went over different qualities of turf, different grades, and we looked at a combo turf that will be appropriate for both softball and soccer,” Martin said. “We found one that suited us.”
The field will utilize Shaw Sports Turf’s Legion HP system. Legion is a combination of high-performance monofilament fibers and a durable slit film fiber. The slit film fiber is a workhorse which will handle the workload, while the monofilament provides a more resilient surface that enhances performance characteristics.
Martin bragged that Defreitas’ availability and knowledge was a big part of his decision to use Shaw Sports Turf.
“He was hands down one of the most informational people in turf. He basically held my hand through this and was fantastic,” Martin said. “He was a phone call away.”
Martin added that he is thrilled the field will now be suitable for high school sports.
“Legion is a great multipurpose system because at Green Wave Park, they are hosting several different sports,” Defreitas said. “It is really proving to be the best multipurpose product out there and allows each of the sports to perform at a really high level. It has great durability but also has the ability to support a wide range of sports.”
Removal of the old turf and installation of the new field is being handled by Shaw Sports Turf partner Applied Landscape Technologies of Montville.
The project should take about 10 days and be complete in time for soccer training in mid-August.
