Optimism is the core theme driving the World Future Society’s (WFS) 50th anniversary summit, WorldFuture2016. More than 700 future-minded individuals from all walks of life – thought leaders and change-makers from across business and government, education and health, and science and technology – will gather July 22 to 24, 2016, at the Washington Hilton, in Washington, D.C., to exchange ideas that will transform the world.

“At a time when the public conversation is overwhelmingly dystopian, we are coming together at WorldFuture2016 in the spirit of envisioning a brighter future,” said Julie Friedman Steele, World Future Society board chair and interim executive director and renowned futurist. “The summit will bring to life one of the World Future Society’s core objectives: to create a community where we leverage the power and range of human imaginings and build a positive force for understanding and addressing the issues of the future.”

The summit will be anchored by four keynote speakers: Chef and the Co-Founder of The Kitchen Community Kimbal Musk, who is also on the boards of Chipotle Mexican Grill, Tesla Motors and SpaceX; the Co-Founder and CEO of Moon Express Bob Richards who is also co-founder of the International Space University, Singularity University, SEDS, the Space Generation Foundation and Google Lunar X PRIZE competitors Odyssey Moon; inspirational speaker and Poetic Voice Sekou Andrews; and leading animal rights proponent and author, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, Wayne Pacelle.

From its free-form “unconference” session and master classes to its keynote speeches and “Inspiration Lounge” to its exhibit hall, the summit is designed to create spaces where anyone interested in helping to influence and create the future can share ideas and acquire new tools for doing so. A wide range of topics will be discussed, including techno-optimism, the age of illumination, the evolution of hope, storytelling for the future, defense and security, smart clothing to improve healthcare, and much more.
