University Of Wisconsin’s Advanced Products Course To Feature Lecture On Warnings And Instructions By Clarion Safety Systems’ CEO
Milford, PA (PRWEB) June 14, 2016 -- Clarion Safety Systems, a leading designer and manufacturer of safety signs and labels, announced today that its CEO, Geoffrey Peckham, will be one of the featured experts presenting at an advanced products course at the University of Wisconsin.
The 3-day course takes place June 21 – 23, 2016 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a leader in product safety and liability prevention programming. The course, “Using Warnings and Instructions to Increase Safety and Reduce Liability,” is aimed towards engineering managers, design engineers, technical writers, risk management professionals, and other product safety professionals. It’s designed to assist organizations in enhancing their product safety and liability prevention activities.
Peckham will present practical information on product warnings and instructions. In his lecture, “The New Era in Product Safety Labeling,” topics to be discussed will include:
- The ANSI Z535 standard for product safety signs and labels
- International standards related to product warnings
- International standards harmonization with ANSI (and vice versa)
- The use of graphical symbols
- Durability considerations
The lecture ends with a workshop where class participants’ actual product warnings are evaluated and recommendations are made for revisions to bring them up-to-date with current best practices.
“I look forward to presenting on this subject. The latest ANSI and ISO standards related to product safety labels have many nuances that manufacturers need to understand if they want their product warnings to be considered best practice,” says Peckham.
Peckham’s credentials include currently serving as chair of both the ANSI Z535 Committee for Safety Signs and Colors and the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 145 – Graphical Symbols. He has also been selected as a member of the U.S. TAG to ISO/PC 283, an ISO committee writing a new standard, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, which will, when finished, define global best practices for workplace safety. In addition, he is an active member of many industry-specific standards committees related to safety signs and labels for buildings, ships, machinery and products.
