Greatmail updates Privacy Policy to include the company’s official stance on email data mining and content scanning for advertising and marketing purposes.

We don't scan email content for advertising or marketing, and we don't engage in the profiling of individuals or businesses in any way.

High availability email hosting provider Greatmail LLC has updated its Privacy Policy to include the company’s official stance on email data mining and content scanning for advertising and marketing purposes.

Advertising free since its inception in 2003, Greatmail has upheld a Privacy Policy protecting its individual and email hosting clients. Specifically, the company has added language stating it does not engage in data mining, does not track or profile its clients, and does not scan email data for marketing or advertising.

In a landscape where free and even paid email service providers have acknowledged and gone under fire for scanning email data, Greatmail’s updated Privacy Policy is intended to reassure both existing and new customers. “People have trusted us with handling and storing their email data,” says company spokesperson Ryan Hess. “They deserve to know that we protect the content of each email and treat every inbound and outbound communication as proprietary to that individual or business.”

Greatmail's email hosting service has been in operation since 2003 and has been widely used by businesses ranging in size from small start ups to large enterprises.

The company specializes in basic POP3/IMAP email hosting but also offers advanced services like Hosted Exchange, Hybrid Exchange and SMTP Hosting for marketing and transactional sending. The highly stable POP3/IMAP service can be used as a back-end and integrated with open source applications like Open Xchange and Zimbra. "We take pride in helping people find the right email solution for their group, and if our platform supports a software they're looking for, we can host it," says Hess. For hosting third party applications, Greatmail's LAMP stack is available in both shared and dedicated server hosting plans.

Greatmail's POP3/IMAP email hosting is a fully managed solution and includes email addresses at your own domains, antivirus and spam protection, web based administration, support for desktop applications like Apple Mail, Thunderbird and Outlook, SSL/TLS encryption and compatibility with iOS, Android and BlackBerry mobile platforms.

The monthly cost to host your email at Greatmail varies from $1 to $1.50 per mailbox depending on storage. Activating an email hosting plan requires a minimum of 15 mailboxes. For resellers and ISPs looking for private label email hosting solutions, Greatmail offers reduced pricing.

US based Greatmail is headquartered in Austin, TX with data center locations in North America and Europe.
