Educators, youth program providers, community leaders, encouraged to attend

New Britain, Conn. (June 13, 2016) — The American Savings Foundation and National Scholarship Providers Association have announced a free full-day workshop for scholarship and financial aid professionals.

The regional conference, titled, “Student Success Training: A Learning Community for Scholarship Professionals” will take place June 22 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Sheraton Hartford South Hotel in Rocky Hill.

"This event is designed to help scholarship providers improve our work and make a greater impact with our scholarship dollars,” said Maria Falvo, President & CEO, American Savings Foundation. “Our goal is for attendees to leave the conference with at least one practical and actionable takeaway that they can implement in their own organization."

The workshops will offer scholarship providers and other professionals insight from experts who are doing groundbreaking work in the field. Scholarship providers will have the opportunity to learn about emerging best practices, and also gain insights into national research and trends.

Topics include:

  •     Understanding organizational data security & privacy issues
  •     Helping students navigate award displacement
  •     Scholarship program models & effective practices
  •     Legal foundations for enrollment and scholarship criteria

The keynote luncheon will be led by Dr. Bridget Terry Long, Academic Dean and Saris Professor of Education and Economics, Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr. Long is an economist who specializes in the study of education, in particular the transition from high school to higher education and beyond. She will speak on interventions that have been demonstrated to help ‘nudge’ students toward college completion and success.

The luncheon keynote is open to a broad audience of educators, youth program providers, community leaders, and others who are involved in this work.

This regional scholarship workshop is part of a national pilot project by the NSPA and is being offered free thanks to a generous grant from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.

"We've brought together local, regional and national experts to provide a day of learning that will help attendees become better informed about scholarship best practices,” said Amy Weinstein, Executive Director, National Scholarship Providers Association. “We are grateful to the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation for their strong support of these regional meetings. With the American Savings Foundation as our co-host and partner here in Connecticut, we have been able to bring together this convening of scholarship providers to learn not only from industry experts but also from their peers."
