A panel of experts will convene during ASM Microbe 2016 to discuss opportunities to diagnose, treat and potentially prevent recurrent C difficile infection (CDI).
“More Than A Gut Reaction: Effective Strategies to Treat and Prevent Recurrent C Difficile Infection (CDI),” takes place this Sunday (June 19) at the Westin Boston Waterfront, Grand Ballroom AB, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
The symposium is designed for healthcare professionals in clinical and laboratory settings at hospitals and health systems, and will consider prevalence and impact of CDI, current recommendations and evidence for optimal treatment, and emerging options that may prevent recurrent infection.
Ciarán P. Kelly, MD (Harvard Medical School) will lead the panel discussion, and will be joined by Dale N. Gerding, MD (Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine), Carlene A. Muto, MD, MS (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) and John Segreti, MD (Rush Medical College).

Gerding added that the recent recommendation for approval of Bezlotoxumab by the FDA advisory committee may be an important advance for preventing recurrent illness and re-hospitalization due to C difficile infection.
This event will offer continuing education credits for physicians, and is presented by Rush University Medical Center, Office of Interprofessional Continuing Education, with funding support provided by an educational grant from Merck & Co., Inc.
