Cancer affects many individuals every year, in some form or another. According to the American Brain Tumor Association, brain cancer is the most common cancer for those ages zero to 19 with an estimated 80,000 new cases expected this year.
Author Chrissie Vinje lost her husband due to brain cancer at an early age. Her new novel, “What Now!” is a personal story of love, grief and acceptance that details the effects of brain cancer on individuals and their families. Vinje’s novel shares this difficult journey and offers those dealing with cancer and grief ways to overcome them through compassion, support and advocacy.
“The novel provides a detailed and true look at what goes on behind the scenes when dealing with a life-altering illness,” Vinje said.
During Vinje’s journey caring for her husband, she created a website with the nonprofit CaringBridge to share medical updates and allow friends, family and the public to write words of encouragement. “What Now!” features many of the positive and uplifting entries that inspired Vinje to share her personal story.
“By sharing my intense grief experience, I hope to show individuals that you can get through devastating hardships, even though there was one point I didn’t know how I was going to do that,” Vinje said.
