Burnt Oranges Inc Funding $25k for Pulse Orlando Memorial
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 22, 2016 -- The Members of Burnt Oranges, Inc., cannot begin to comprehend the devastation and grief caused by the tragedy that struck at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida on 6/12/16. There were a total of 49 killed and 53 injured, and it is said to be the largest mass shooting ever recorded in America to date. The Members' thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims that were innocently involved in this horrific event, to the families and friends that were affected indefinitely, and to the LGBT community.
As difficult as it is having this happen in the Members' home state and in the heart of Central Florida where Burnt Oranges was founded, it has directly impacted one of the extended Burnt Oranges family, Brian Alvear, who has been an active volunteer with Burnt Oranges since it was founded nearly 9 years ago. Brian lost his dear sister Amanda Alvear that night. Despite the tragedy of the circumstances, Brian has been nothing short of a beautiful example to everyone around him. Choosing to focus on spreading love instead of anger and hate, he has been the rock for his family since they heard the terrible news. He is the kind of person that would do anything for anyone, is always willing to go out of his way for others, and has a tremendously good heart.
So, following in Brian’s footsteps, Burnt Oranges is seeking to promote love and understanding through art and in a small way provide some healing for the Alvear family and all those who survived that night. BOI will be donating $25,000 to create a permanent art structure in Orlando to honor the victims of the Pulse shooting. BOI is asking the Community to provide additional donations to fund the project as well and help make this a truly significant piece of art. Make donations specifically for this project on our website at http://www.burntoranges.org/wp/donations/ and use the Donate button under the Orlando Memorial Fund.
Burnt Oranges is also asking the community to submit designs for this art piece. BOI intends to have the Alvear family, as well as any other interested survivors or family members, determine the winning submission. BOI will be releasing a separate document with guidelines for the art piece.
Burnt Oranges Members are a strong community bound together by our desire to give of ourselves to others and change the world through art. Please help BOI honor the loved ones that the Orlando Community has lost and promote a healing message of love, not hate. Send any questions or comments to Burnt Oranges at [email protected].
