Pacific Links Championship

Major championship winners Mark Calcavecchia, Jeff Sluman, Larry Mize and Bob Tway have committed to play the Pacific Links Championship, an official event on PGA TOUR Champions featuring the world's premier golfers aged 50 and older competing for a US$ 2.5 million purse. Tournament play at the Pacific Links Championship will be held on the Mountain Course at Bear Mountain Golf Resort, Victoria, British Columbia, from September 19-25, 2016.

During his PGA TOUR career, Calcavecchia won 13 events, including the 1989 Open Championship at Royal Troon and the 1997 Greater Vancouver Open, contested at Northview Golf & Country Club. Since turning 50 in 2010, Calcavecchia has competed full-time on PGA TOUR Champions, winning three times while collecting 45 top-10 finishes.

Sluman notched six wins during his PGA TOUR career, including his maiden title at the 1988 PGA Championship. Sluman’s PGA TOUR Champions career has been fruitful as well, with six victories giving way to more than $10 million in earnings.

Mize’s PGA TOUR tenure centered around one career-defining shot — a chip from off the green at the 11th hole at Augusta National Golf Club to defeat Greg Norman in a playoff at the 1987 Masters Tournament. The stunning win was one of four TOUR titles for Mize, who also won the 2010 Montreal Championship on PGA TOUR Champions.

Tway collected eight PGA TOUR titles in his career, including the 1986 PGA Championship – one of four wins during a season that gave way to “Player of the Year” honors. He spent 25 weeks in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking in 1986–87. Calcavecchia, Sluman, Mize and Tway, who have a combined 41 career PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions victories, will be part of the 81-player field competing at Bear Mountain Resort. Tournament week in Victoria will begin with Pro-Ams on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by 54 holes of championship play from Friday through Sunday, with no cut. All three competitive rounds will be broadcast live by Golf Channel to more than 200 million homes in 84 countries and 11 languages around the world.
