Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) announced today that it has received the Diversity Best Practices’ “Above and Beyond” Award. The award recognizes companies committed to diversity, parity and inclusion. The Horizon BCBSNJ Latin American Cultural Organization (LACO) received the honor in the ‘Business Impact’ category.

“Diversity is a large part of who we are as a company and we are honored that Diversity Best Practices has chosen us as an ‘Above and Beyond’ Award winner,” said Lymari Ramos, LACO President, Horizon BCBSNJ, Human Resources. “Our mission is to promote the rich Latin-American history, heritage and culture, celebrate our many accomplishments, educate others about our people and help all Latin-Americans at Horizon BCBSNJ in their efforts toward success.”

“The leadership shown by the winning Employee Resource Groups has been extraordinary,” noted Deborah Munster, Executive Director of Diversity Best Practices. “For example, Horizon BCBSNJ’s Latino and Hispanic Resource group saw a rise in new Hispanic members, which contributed to an overall increase in membership from 10,000 to 30,000. In 2015, the Hispanic percentage of new enrollment in Essex County increased by 174%; Hudson County increased by 272%, Passaic County increased by 245% and Union County increased by 199%.”

The award was accepted by Lymari Ramos and Dave Huber, SVP, CFO and Treasurer and LACO’s Executive Sponsor at Diversity Best Practice’s Network & Affinity Leadership Congress (NALC) on June 16-17th at the Prudential Tower in Newark, NJ.
