EKU Confers More Than 500 Awards to Online Students in Spring 2016
Richmond, KY (PRWEB) June 23, 2016 -- More than 500 degrees and certificates were awarded to EKU Online students in Spring 2016.
Eastern Kentucky University’s online students earned a record number 504 degrees and certificates: 14 associate’s; 224 bachelor’s; 204 master’s; 10 doctorates; and 52 specialist and certificate designations.
Online graduates from the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Justice & Safety, the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education were recognized at university-wide commencement exercises in May.
Johanna Coursey, a graduate of the EKU Online M.S.N. Rural Health Family Nurse Practitioner program from Shelbyville, Ky. gave the graduate student address on behalf of the Class of 2016 for the EKU College of Health Sciences.
Eighteen years after she earned her bachelor’s degree from EKU, Coursey returned as a working adult and enrolled as an online student to obtain her graduate degree.
“I am so grateful for every professor that helped me get to this point. I am grateful to the university for helping me reach my goals. Thanks to my education here, doors have opened for me that have never been opened before in my life,” Coursey told the audience.
When online education was introduced at Eastern Kentucky University in 2006, there were six students enrolled. Ten years later, more than 3,000 students are achieving their goals online.
