Butler Bulldogs Installing New Fields by Shaw Sports Turf
Indianapolis, Indiana (PRWEB) June 23, 2016 -- When Butler University begins competition this fall, student-athletes will be playing on two brand new synthetic surface. The school began prep work last week on the resurfacing of the Butler Bowl and West Campus Athletics Complex with Shaw Sports Turf.
The fields will feature Shaw Sports Turf’s PowerBlade system. An advanced monofilament fiber, PowerBlade combines the softness and lush appearance of natural grass with the engineered performance of modern synthetic turf. The PowerBlade monofilament fiber excels in durability. Since there is no post-fibrillation, a field will maintain its impressive look and feel for years to come.
“Butler is excited about the work being done at the Butler Bowl and our enhanced West Campus Athletic Field,” said Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier. “The Shaw Sports Turf fields being installed in both venues will provide our teams with improved playing surfaces as we look to continue the success these programs have achieved in recent seasons.”
Butler Bowl, originally built in time for the 1928 football season, is utilized by Butler’s football team and men and women’s soccer teams and received a $2.6 million renovation in 2010. It will receive a new Shaw Sports Turf surface to replace an old turf installed 12 years ago.
The West Campus Athletic Fields will be converted from natural grass to Shaw’s PowerBlade system and will host the women’s lacrosse program for its inaugural season in the 2016-17 academic year.
The Butler women’s soccer team won the 2015 BIG EAST Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The men’s soccer team was ranked in the Top 25 for portions of last season and finished third in the BIG EAST. The football team won the Pioneer Football League championship in 2013 and comes off a 6-5 season in 2015.
The Butler Bowl will be completed in early August for preseason camp and practices. The West Campus field will be completed by early September.
Shaw Sports Turf Territory Manager Jennifer Holton said the PowerBlade system was carefully engineered to combine durability and performance for year-round, multi-purpose use, and to meet the performance needs associated with athlete-surface and ball-surface interactions.
“I am proud that we are able to be a part of providing these teams with the finest playing surface in the world and wish them many years of success on their Shaw Sports Turf fields,” she said. “These teams will be strengthened by these new additions to the Butler University campus. Go Bulldogs!”
