West Yorkshire Spa takes the UK to No 1 when it comes to luxury spas
Huddersfield, Yorkshire (PRWEB UK) 23 June 2016 -- The biggest gathering of the world’s best spas filled the five star Grand Hotel Kronenhof Pomtresina in Switzerland this weekend to celebrate the prestigious 2016 World Luxury Spa Awards.
West Yorkshire’s Titanic Spa, set within a lovingly restored textile mill nestled in the Linthwaite Valley, just outside Huddersfield, was amongst the finalists and overjoyed to walk away with TWO top titles: ‘Best Luxury Eco Spa’ and ‘Best Luxury Destination Spa’.
With the spa celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2016, the award wins couldn’t have come at a more important time. Titanic Spa set new heights when it launched in 2006, incorporating sustainable technologies and practices into its build. This has become a benchmark for many new spa developments in the UK industry and was applauded by the World Luxury Spa Awards giving Titanic Spa the ‘Best Luxury Eco Award’.
The World Luxury Spa Awards recognise the best in luxury spas, setting benchmarks in quality, innovation and service excellence around the globe and are voted for by spa guests and industry consultants. Each year they attract thousands of entries. This is the second year in a row that Titanic Spa has been named ‘The Best Luxury Destination Spa’ by the World Luxury Spa Awards.
The awards also recognised Titanic Spa’s continual development to meet and exceed spa customer demands. Late last year, the spa developed an innovative social space complete with glamorous lounge and bar for after spa treats. In addition, the trend for outdoor spa experiences led to the creation of an alfresco spa experience complete with sunken spa pool and sensory garden. These facilities, along with one of the UK’s largest heat and ice experiences, over 20 treatment rooms offering a wide range of indulgent and results driven treatments and 33 scenic Mill apartments offering all the comfort and style required for a relaxing stay, make Titanic spa a serious leader when it comes to spa days and stays in the UK.
Warrick Burton, Titanic Spa’s Managing Director said of the 2016 World Luxury Spa Award wins; “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to have picked up two awards in this year’s World Luxury Spa Awards. We were among such strong competition this year and it is fantastic to be recognised in these prestigious global awards. We thank all our customers who have voted for us.
Our approach to business has always been to create a sustainable business which puts the customer first. Our first 10 years have been an amazing journey and we really appreciate these awards which recognise all the hard work our team has put into Titanic Spa in making it the best in not only the UK but the world.”

Titanic Spa Eco Credentials
A Green Building
When Titanic Mill was redeveloped in 2006 it set new standards in eco builds. They have renewable energy generation through solar photovoltaic roof panels which convert light directly into electricity. Low U value windows virtually eliminate draughts and thermal mass means that they don’t overheat in summer and retain conformable temperature during the winter months. Energy efficient lighting and appliances are installed through the building.
Spring Water
Water is at the heart of ‘spa’ which means they need a lot! That is why they have their very own natural water source. Found 100m below the Spa, this was the original water source when the building was working as an Edwardian textile mill. Today it provides fresh drinking water and bathing water for their plunge pool, salt regulated swimming pool, showers and ice experience.
Towels
At Titanic Spa they are proud of their on-site laundry and are happy for you to use their towels as required. This is because they use an OTEX laundry system, used by many hospitals, which is leading in energy efficiency and extremely powerful at cleaning too. This not only washes on a cool temperature but also delivers continuous ozonated water which leaves their linen 100% disinfected. It also means they have no unnecessary transport to and from laundry services.
Food & Drink
Titanic believe their guests should have access to high quality food that enhances their spa experience and wellbeing. The spa’s bistro offers fresh seasonal menus, a dedication to healthy eating and environmental responsibility. Wherever possible they source organic and fair trade ingredients choosing locally sourced, in-season produce which helps keep their food miles down and bring benefits to the local community and wider environment.
Recycling
The spa recycle as many materials as possible providing recycle bins for both their apartment owners and spa guests. They also use recycled paper for their spa brochure and vegetable ink dyes for printing. They keep print to a minimum by encouraging their spa guests to use the Titanic Spa website for information on facilities and services. Titanic’s staff and skincare companies support them by keeping office waste to a minimum and recycling product packaging and office equipment.
The Future
The Titanic Spa Eco Focus Group ensures they are continually monitoring and reducing their impact on the environment. The group is also responsible for researching and implementing new measures such as the combined heat plant which provides the majority of our heat and hot water. Titanic’s aim is to become a fully carbon neutral and sustainable business working in partnership with their suppliers and spa guests.
Key Credentials
• Titanic Spa is the UKs first Eco-Spa
• Titanic Mill invested £1.5 million to create a carbon neutral building
• The CHP (combined heat and power) unit provides heat and electric. This unit takes chippings from sustainable trees managed over a controlled time period. The trees also extract similar volumes of CO2 that are given out during biomass woodchip production
• A 15m salt regulated swimming pool
• Photovoltaic solar panels to catch the daylight all year round
• OTEX laundry system providing significant financial and energy savings on our laundry
• The Spa has its very own bore hole, 100m below the earth’s surface that provides vast quantities of pure Yorkshire water to the Titanic Experience and Apartments
• Product Houses with authentic green statements
• Electric car recharging points and company electric car
