This station has served as a catalyst for development and is raising the bar for future developments.

As one of the biggest users of the Phoenix bus system, the Maryvale community was selected by the city for an upgraded, centralized transit station to provide patrons with a safe, comfortable center. To create synergy with the structures in the surrounding neighborhood and meet safety and performance requirements, Hunter Douglas was chosen to provide its Deep Box 2 exterior ceiling system in a reflective metallic green color.
Architect Dev Pawar, with Architectural Resource Team, designed the new structure, and ceiling subcontractor TP Acoustics constructed the Desert Sky Transit Center ceilings. The existing facility was poorly lit and often faced security issues at night. It was subject to intense sunlight during the day. Pawar’s solution was a state-of-the-art facility that resolved both security concerns as well as improved comfort levels for the station’s roughly 67,000 regular monthly users.
The ceiling was an integral part of the new design. Hunter Douglas’ exterior ceiling system, with approximately 13,000 one-inch by 16-foot metal panels, was installed. Recessed LED light fixtures provide excellent nighttime visibility, deterring vandalism and enhancing personal safety. The canopy itself provides much needed relief for riders from the often-brutal Phoenix sun. A testament to the partnership between Hunter Douglas, the city and the architect, the result was both purposeful and architectural.
Serving approximately 804,000 people annually, the new, centralized station has already become a source for public pride in the community. “This station has served as a catalyst for development and is raising the bar for future developments,” said Pawar.
