Kajeet Launches New Website to Help School Districts Secure Grants to Close Homework Gap
DENVER, Colorado (PRWEB) June 27, 2016 -- Kajeet, the industry leader for safe, mobile student Internet connectivity, announced at ISTE 2016—the world’s most comprehensive ed tech event—a new online resource to help school districts secure funding for education technology, including mobile Internet access to aid low-income household students in doing homework.
Providing more than just Internet to its customers, Kajeet launched a new website (http://www.HomeworkGapFunding.com), which includes grants from foundations and government entities around the country and can be used to help close the Homework Gap. According to a Pew Research Center study, 5 million households with school-aged children in America do not have high-speed Internet service at home and are caught in the growing Homework Gap.
The new Homework Gap Funding website allows districts and schools to locate foundations that fund educational programs by state, which would include technology, to improve student success. In addition to school district funds, private foundations, local grants, and Federal funds can be used to fund or assist in procuring off-campus connectivity to ensure all students can access their latest educational technology. Many districts are already tapping into these resources to help close the Homework Gap, purchase and develop new or existing technologies, enhance students’ computer skills, offer professional development, increase parent involvement, and work with data to improve academic achievement for all students.
“Technology requires funding and funding continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing schools,” said Kajeet CEO and Founder Daniel Neal. “As each day passes and more educational material is moved to the Internet, the pernicious Homework Gap widens, and finding ways to close that gap should be a part of a district’s digital strategy and budget. Foundations provide millions of dollars to school districts for programs that help improve their communities. We want to help our district partners more readily find the funding when their budgets fall short.”
The Kajeet team will continually update the Homework Gap Funding online resource with grants throughout the year, as well as provide funding resources for educators as they work to secure Internet access for education outside the classroom.
Currently partnering with hundreds of schools and districts in 37 states, Kajeet is keeping students connected with Education Broadband™, which includes a portable Wi-Fi hotspot combined with a filtered cloud portal, on multiple national 4G LTE wireless broadband networks, to ensure that students have a level playing field for academic success. Providing students with home broadband for educational purposes, costs a district $15 to $25 per student per month.
