New Edsby Analytics Enable Unique Real-Time Insights for K-12 School Districts

Big picture K-12 academic data reveals at-risk student and achievement trends to teachers and administrators

To make good data-driven decisions, you’ve got to be looking at current data. It does no good to be driving down the highway and see a sign that reads ‘Cheap gas 10 miles ago.’

To offer new levels of insight to K-12 teachers and administrators, Edsby®, an innovative cloud-based engagement and data aggregation platform for K-12 school districts, introduces breakthrough learning analytics capabilities at ISTE 2016. The new analytics enable educators to identify at-risk students and find trends in achievement data in real-time across an individual class, school, group of schools or whole school district, depending on the user’s role.

The new analytics engine represents a dramatic shift in how districts and school leaders can measure and act on student achievement and progress, previously only available via conventional data warehouses. Features and capabilities include:

  • Insights from LMS and other sources – Edsby collects vast amounts of information on students’ learning journeys from its own or other LMS systems, offering powerful data analysis that enables districts, regional and national governments to aggregate and see trends in real-time.
  • Identification of at-risk students and improvement areas – Educators can quickly identify competencies/standards where students struggle most, and can choose to make corrections to instruction or enhance professional development for teachers in areas needing specific attention.
  • Scalability – Hillsborough County Public Schools, a school district of 206,000 students, has been using Edsby district-wide since 2013. Edsby has been capturing analytics data the entire 2015-2016 school year. Some 1.3 million records from Hillsborough enter the Edsby analytics system every academic day.

“Even in beta, the new Edsby analytics are helping us understand differences and similarities in schools across our district,” said Gregory Hart, Manager of Web Communications, Hillsborough County Public Schools. “Student risk analyses, geographic distributions of student achievement and more could ultimately help us see where to optimize, and these real-time graphs and charts can be shared among district or even school level administrators.”

The new advanced analytics capabilities will be available to Edsby customers for the 2016-2017 school year.
