What it takes to become a hospital renovation expert
(PRWEB) June 26, 2016 -- What's the biggest danger at a hospital? Dust, dirt and germs are the main concerns for patients, doctors, staff and visitors at any time, let alone during a renovation. That's why cleanliness is key to every aspect of the many successful projects conducted at Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH) by Maystar General Contractors over the past four years.
Maystar President Joseph Maio says, "One of the main challenges of renovating a hospital is the fact that it stays occupied. There are always patients, staff and others to be aware of and protect from construction work. The hospital calls it infection control, and we've managed it through everything from negative air pressure to keep the dust in our area, to tarps, hoarding, and sticky mats for boots on the way out of the construction zone."
"Our goal is to disrupt as little as possible, and keep the experience smooth for everyone," says Mr. Maio.
Clearly, it's working for Toronto East General Hospital and Maystar. But there's more to winning repeat business than just cleanliness.
"We've worked on everything from the main boardroom and the brand new Chest Centre to new cooling towers for air conditioning. We're currently replacing generators and emergency backup systems," says Mr. Maio. "We're proud of the fact that East General trusts our high quality workmanship and service. It's a rewarding relationship; one project has led to another."
TEGH Facilities Manager Tony Martino says, "We always rely on Maystar for a seamless experience and great results; they're a great company - always accommodating, up-to-date on their excellent scheduling, and very professional."
Maystar's hospital renovation expertise is showing. As well as the GBHS – Southampton Hospital expansion, Maystar is currently working on The Hospital for Sick Children’s renewal of its very busy loading dock. "This is a massive dock, and needs to function at all times", says Mr. Maio. "We'll tackle it in stages; for example, we'll remove the asphalt, add new waterproof membrane, then replace the asphalt. It's all about ensuring those trucks keep running smoothly."
