Sustainable Retailer Bambeco Helps the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Raise $260,000 to Help Defend and Protect the Chesapeake Bay
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) July 05, 2016 -- Sustainability has always been the heart of eco-conscious retailer Bambeco’s mission. By working together with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as title sponsor of the Bands in the Sand event this year, Bambeco helped to raise $260,000 to help defend and protect the Chesapeake Bay for both current and future generations.
The 11th annual Bands in the Sand event, hosted by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, was held right on the water’s edge on Saturday, June 11. 1500 attendees enjoyed a night filled with live music, drinks, and delicious food, and tickets to the event included a donation to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Over the last 10 years, the event has raised more than $1.3 million to support initiatives to protect and defend the Bay.
Bambeco has long been a proud supporter of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation; this marks Bambeco’s fifth year as a sponsor of Bands in the Sand. During these five years, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation has made enormous strides in their mission, ranging from education to protection. The organization has been able to educate 175,000 students, teachers, and principals in order to help new generations learn to save the Bay. Additionally, 50,000 trees have been planted in the watershed, filtering out pollutants and preventing erosion. This five year period has also seen over 200 million oysters planted in the Bay, helping clean up to a billion gallons of water each day.
“We must ensure we are protecting our planet for future generations,” says Susan Aplin, Bambeco Co-Founder and CEO. “Preserving our land, combating climate change, protecting our clean water and waterways, these are Bambeco’s core causes. We are proud to work together with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Bands in the Sand event to do just that.”
