The Governance Issue

Governance is such a critical aspect of organizational success. In this issue, I wanted to share how essential it is to properly engage the board by presenting the right information in the most effective manner.

The Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, announced today the publication of the Q2, Governance Issue of Ethisphere Magazine, featuring Paula Loop as guest editor, the leader for PwC’s Governance Insights Center.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the Q2 issue of Ethisphere Magazine and welcome the opportunity to help organizations strengthen investor confidence and provide resources for directors and investors addressing new and traditional challenges,” said Paula Loop. “Governance is such a critical aspect of organizational success. In this issue, I wanted to share how essential it is to properly engage the board by presenting the right information in the most effective manner.”

The issue includes insights from Cindy Fornelli, the Executive Director of the Center for Audit Quality; Brendan Sheehan, Managing Director, Corporate Governance of Rivel Research Group; John Dalla Costa, the Founding Director of the Centre for Ethical Orientation; Niel Ellerbrook, the Chairman of the Compensation and Management Development Committee for Old National Bancorp and member of the Board of Directors since 2002; and Roger Brossy, co-founder of Semler Brossy Consulting Group. These experts explore how boards and other governance leaders can work with the executive, legal, compliance/ethics and other teams across an organization to effectively harness a strong ethical culture.

“Boards are an important piece in setting the proper tone of a company, and their focus often translates into the goals of an organization,” said Ethisphere's Chief Content Officer, Stefan Linssen. “If board members are focused on good governance practices, and are actively working with other leaders involved in the day to day management and operations of their companies on developing the right culture, this will have a big impact across the organization.”

Within the Governance Issue of Ethisphere Magazine, Ms. Loop and the other leaders will present insight into and about corporate directors and leading governance professionals to explore key issues facing governance and ethics professionals today.

Some of the topics addressed within the issue include the unexpected consequences of executive compensation, the role of internal controls in financial reporting, the role management plays in driving board performance, setting the tone at the top, the board’s role in risk management, an examination of ethical skills, and the impact boards and corporate secretaries are having in institutional investor engagement.
