Local Chiropractor now offers care to patients worldwide using state of the art techniques

Since opening New City Chiropractic in Lakeland, Dr. Chris Barker has become a real leader in chiropractic care both locally and nationally. His new corrective care program involves three stages: mix, fix and set.

Unlike other chiropractors, Dr. Barker believes in taking a digital hospital grade X-ray first, before any manual adjustments are made. He also uses Myovision, which is cutting-edge technology designed to detect and pinpoint abnormal function in the nervous system not visible via X-ray.

A typical visit first involves the mix part: repetitive body movements in order to warm up the spine and prepare it for adjustments. So, a patient is likely to use a wall-mounted traction unit involving ropes and pulleys to increase their range of motion, and/or a wobble disc that looks like a plump cushion which involves sitting exercises.

Next comes the fix part, and no two adjustments are alike. Chiropractic adjustments are structural corrections the doctor makes to a person’s spine. He uses his hands to move the bones to their natural state so the body can function properly again.

Finally, the set part involves a unique process where patients put on head and body weights while standing on a vibrating platform. This system helps to re-train a person’s muscles and ligaments to reset it into the proper position. Patients are each given a customized spinal home care kit which is used to strengthen the damaged areas while away from the office.

A native of Long Island, NY, Dr. Barker graduated with a pre-med degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University and completed his Doctorate of Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida. Certified in spinal correction, he teaches these techniques to other doctor’s.
