Low-code, case management solutions provide a 360-degree view of information to improve data-driven processes

Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance and WPS are two examples of forward-thinking organizations taking a holistic approach to information management to drastically transform processes and deliver exceptional service.

The Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) awarded Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company and WPS Health Solutions(WPS) the 2016 Global Awards for Excellence in Case Management for adapting business and work processes to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of knowledge-driven work. This marks the third consecutive year that the WfMC has recognized an organization using OnBase case management capabilities.

The winning organizations were announced during the 2016 BPM & Case Management Global Summit in Washington, D.C., where attendees gathered to learn about successful and effective business process management (BPM) and case management initiatives from the industry’s most trusted and respected thought leaders.

Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, the largest primary reinsurer of farm mutual companies in North America, was recognized for its use of case management capabilities within the OnBase enterprise information platform. Without custom coding, a solution was configured to link all information and notes related to policies and claims for greater collaboration and transparency. Since first implementing the solution in 2010, and enhancing it over time, Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance has increased visibility between its Claims and Underwriting departments, gained greater consistency in processes, improved customer service levels and underwritten more business, faster.

“Our OnBase case management solution provides a 360-degree view of policy and claim information, which has improved collaboration between our Underwriting and Claims departments and transformed our processes,” said Missy Gaul, IT manager at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance. “The ability to see all notes surrounding a policy or claim, as well as the decision trail behind those processes, from one central place, ensures we have total visibility to improve both compliance and service levels.”

WPS, a not-for-profit health insurer, created a solution to improve its information-intensive credentialing and enrollment process to help review and enroll the more than 100,000 physicians and medical facilities that want to offer Medicare services. Working with authorized OnBase solution provider, Naviant, to deploy its OnBase case management solution, WPS was able to automate mundane manual tasks, streamline the provider credentialing process and equip its employees to make better decisions. As a result of its solution, WPS reduced the average time to complete enrollment review from 62 days to 19 days, gaining 69 percent process improvement.

“The OnBase case management solution provides a comprehensive view of the information our employees need to manage, review and validate provider enrollment applications,” said Janet Kyle, executive vice president for Government Health Administrators at WPS. “The solution helped us drastically reduce processing times to become one of the most efficient Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC) for provider enrollment. It’s been so successful that our executive team has decided to expand OnBase across the entire Government Health Administrators (GHA) division to gain additional efficiencies.”
