MIRTH invites you to discover #caftanlife. Thrown one on for effortless style. Long voyaging. Slow living.

Fall in love with caftans. Caftans for the comfortable life. The slow life. A life in the moment. That is the feeling MIRTH creators, Katie McClure and Erin Breen, want each person to experience when wearing one of their caftans. These two sisters created the concept of MIRTH on an elephant ride in the Indian desert outside of Jaipur, after traveling and discovering heritage textiles over the course of several years. “We kept coming back to this idea that really encompassed the things we loved—creativity, travel, unforced style, and doing something that matters-- and finally figured out we couldn’t rest until we at least tried it.” says co-founder McClure.

MIRTH’s caftans will be sold online starting March 15th and will then be available in select boutiques worldwide, notably Houston’s Saint Cloud, Atlanta’s Morgan Kylee, select Anthropologie concept stores, Four Seasons Resorts in Hawaii and the new Canyon Ranch Wellness Resort in Turkey. The Houston launch party will take place at one of their Houston stockists, Brooke Feather, on April 6th from 6 – 8pm.

On March 15th, MIRTH will introduce The India Collection for Spring/Summer 2016. Inspired by the natural beauty of the northern hills of India, and influenced by the draping of traditional Indian garments, this first collection features fourteen unique natural fiber caftans, composed of soft textures and colors. With a modern take on traditional ikat and abstract block printing, each is designed to be easily wearable. Several fabrics are handloomed by a women-run artisan cooperative in central India which was formed to provide good lives to women and their families. The block printing is done in Bagru, India by a fourth-generation block printer. Each part of the process is done by hand by a member of the community, including carving intricate wooden blocks.

Versions of caftans have been worn around the globe for thousands of years. With MIRTH’s modern take on the caftan, you will be able to easily go from beach to town or just throw on heels for dinner. The sisters encourage a capsule wardrobe with special pieces, and these caftans fit right in with their versatility. Light and airy, but not so transparent, they are made to be worn wherever you are with ease, comfort and effortless style.

It’s important to MIRTH that all of their caftans are ethically made. For their partners in India, this means fair wages and hours, training and education, and a safe and pleasant work environment. They are also dedicated to creating more local employment opportunities there, in addition to giving 5% of profit to support the Naam Dev School in Bagru, India. For each caftan sold, proceeds will sponsor a child to go to school for one day, including a meal, in a healthy and positive environment.

MIRTH’s mission is clear: do something with a purpose. Incorporate the essence of travel. Create a product to love. Affect lives in a positive way. MIRTH invites you to live a slow life. Life without an agenda. Wear a caftan to explore or wear one to slow down. Feel good, wherever you are.
