Come Experience The Spirit of the Scots
Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) July 07, 2016 -- Scottish Pipers, drummers, dancers and premier athletes will once again take the field at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham for the 2016 Portland Highland Games (http://phga.org). The day-long festivities include competitions, performances and demonstrations featuring Scottish culture and music. Tons of family-friendly and children’s activities – like our popular Kids’ Run and Sheepdog demonstrations. And tons for the adults too, like the Whisky Tasking, heavy athletics competition, pipe bands and the Kilted Mile Race.
Whisky tasting is one of our featured events for the adults (of course). The tasting is led by two NW whisky experts – Dr. Mick Secor of the Highland Stillhouse and Stuart Ramsay of Ramsey’s Dram. Heavy athletics are a popular event to watch as athletes test their skills on the 96-pound Portland Stone; or attempt their best at flipping the famous 20-foot long, 50-pound caber; or try to out throw each other using the 16-pound Scottish Hammer.
Tickets are available online (http://phga.org/tickets) and offer discounted rates for those who purchase ahead. Parking is available at Mt. Hood Community College and includes shuttles to the event gates.
Want more than one day of the highland games? Join us at the pre-game event on Friday afternoon (starts at 3 p.m.) that features the amateur heavy athletics competition and the Piobaireachd competition (starts at 7 p.m.) – the classical music of the Highland bagpipe. Tickets to the pre-game event are just $5 and purchased at the gate.
