So like the television show, "The Voice", Perfect Pressure wanted to test the performances of various mattresses without having to deal with it’s appearance or marketing hype.

The mattress industry is fraught with ‘me-too’ mattress constructions which all promise to minimize pressure points caused by a sleeper’s body and the mattress which causes nightly tossing and turning.

Memory foam and coil construction have become the mainstay of the mattress industry in various horizontal layered construction combinations all claiming to offer the industry’s most comfortable and most restful night’s sleep.

So like the television show, "The Voice", Perfect Pressure wanted to test the performances of various mattresses without having to deal with it’s appearance or marketing hype. A test simply based upon objective test results.

Perfect Pressure contacted a world renowned sleep expert from Stanford University’s Sleep Sciences Clinic, Dr. Jed Black, to develop a double-blind testing protocol to measure the various pressures caused by various test subjects, all lying on their sides, and various nationally advertised and well-known mattress brands.

Mattresses from Tempur-Pedic, Sleep Number, Serta, Sealy, Simmons and Casper were all tested along with the Perfect Pressure mattress. Each of 5 different test participants (4 humans and 1 non-human test fixture) lay on each mattress for 3 minutes on 5 separate occasions while a researcher recorded pressure readings from their hips and shoulders and the particular mattress they were lying on.

None of the test participants nor the researcher were aware of which mattress brand was being tested.

The results overwhelming confirmed that the Perfect Pressure mattress outperformed all of the nationally advertised brands by having lower average pressures in the hip and shoulder regions.

Using the non-human test fixture to eliminate the inherent issue of humans trying to lie the same way on five separate occasions, the Perfect Pressure mattress had lower pressures than the national brands by the following percentages:

Serta by 16%
Tempur-Pedic by 23.2%
Sealy by 37.0%
Sleep Number by 37.5%
Casper by 48.9%
Simmons by 56.7%

The results using the 4 human test participants only confirmed similar relative results:

Tempur-Pedic by 5.82%
Sleep Number by 9.83%
Sealy by 10.14%
Serta by 12.22%
Casper by 27.18%
Simmons by 32.69%

How did Perfect Pressure achieve these results?

Most mattresses on the market today offer horizontal layers of differing materials (memory foam, latex, coils or air) but in almost all cases the sleeping surface has just one firmness – soft, medium or firm from head-to-toe.

The Perfect Pressure mattress offers differing zones of firmness such that the regions below a sleeper’s shoulders and hips are softer than the regions below the sleeper’s torso and thighs. This patent-pending construction results in the redistribution of a sleeper’s weight to the firmer zones which alleviates pressures on the shoulders and hips which are in the softer zones.

Additionally, the Perfect Pressure mattress is not made with any memory foam layers and as such many of the problems many report with memory foam, such as sleeping hot and restriction of movement because of body impressions, are eliminated, while maintaining the positive effects of foam mattresses such as lower pressure points and proper spinal alignment.

The effect of the patent-pending construction is best summarized by Terry Sloan of Orlando, FL who was one of the early testers of the Perfect Pressure mattress. Terry and his wife, Debi, sleep with their Fitbit monitors that actually counts the number of times you turn over and disrupt your sleep at night:

“I wear a fitness tracker all day long, 24/7. I watch how well I’m sleeping and how many times your restless during the night, how many time you wake up during the night. I was having maybe 20 to 30 restlessness points throughout the night sleeping.
