Pioneer of ZONE Sonography® Technology to Head Worldwide Premium and High-End Ultrasound Development

With over 20 years' industry experience in the innovation, development and marketing of medical ultrasound, Glen will greatly reinforce Mindray’s strength in the ultrasound business.

Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co.,Ltd (Mindray), a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices worldwide, today announced the recent appointment of Mr. Glen McLaughlin, PhD., as chief product officer (CPO), Ultrasound for the company’s worldwide operations. McLaughlin will retain his current titles of president, ZONARE and the executive vice president of Ultrasound, Mindray North America.

The CPO position was created as a result of a retrospective review of Mindray’s ultrasound business strategy and in line with the newly set strategy that pivots on Mindray’s core business - specifically penetration into the global premium and high-end medical ultrasound market. McLaughlin will lead his team to work in close collaboration with premium and high-end ultrasound customers to ensure that Mindray’s ultrasound product strategy and development are aligned with their imaging requirements.

“With over 20 years' industry experience in the innovation, development and marketing of medical ultrasound, Glen will greatly reinforce Mindray’s strength in the ultrasound business, including strategic direction, product innovation and roadmap, as well as marketing,” said Haitao Huang, vice president of Mindray. “In addition to leading the innovative research of ZONE Sonography® Technology (ZST), Glen also will facilitate and participate in the Medical Imaging Systems business unit’s efforts in technology, product, marketing strategy and marketing activities planning.”

McLaughlin is the pioneer behind the development of ZST, which is a next generation ultrasound technology based primarily on software. ZST enables imaging developments such as Advanced Acoustic Acquisition™, a software acquisition technique that breaks with traditional line-by-line imaging and instead uses large zones to acquire 90 percent more echo data at speeds of up to 10 times faster than conventional systems. The results are crystal clear images with exceptional temporal accuracy bringing diagnostic confidence to all imaging challenges.

ZST also drives Dynamic Pixel Focusing™ where, automatically, every pixel is optimally focused in every frame, at every depth and every time. No other technology eliminates manual focal zones and reveals structural clarity from the skin line to depths of up to 40 centimeters (cm), whether the smallest of neonates or the largest of bariatric patients.

“We believe we have a tremendous opportunity to leverage our core technologies in order to expand solutions to meet the imaging needs of high-end and premium ultrasound users,” said McLaughlin. “In doing so, we can provide state-of-the-art ultrasound systems while providing outstanding value with ongoing upgrades to support excellence in patient care.”
