Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement Announces New Scholarship Program
Westminster, MD (PRWEB) July 19, 2016 -- The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement will be awarding a total of $100,000 in scholarships to students who are planning to attend or are currently enrolled as full-time students at a college, university, or technical school, planning to pursue a career in agriculture. The deadline for all applications and supporting materials is January 13, 2017.
“We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Foundation and its scholarship program,” says Sandy Wieber, spokesperson for the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. The non-profit Foundation was formed in 2015, funded by participating association MidAtlantic Farm Credit.
“Farm Credit is celebrating their centennial in 2016,” says Wieber. “Farm Credit has supported agriculture and rural Americans for 100 years, and in honor of that, we wanted to create a resource that would continue to support the industry far into the future. Pledging 100 thousand dollars is a great way for us to celebrate our centennial.”
“The future of agriculture is a bright one,” adds Ralph Robertson, a Maryland farmer and chairman of the Foundation’s board. “There are more career paths in the industry today than ever before, and we’re excited to see students explore these options. If we can help them achieve their dream of working in agriculture, whether as a farmer, a food scientist, or a veterinarian, we’re happy to do so.”
The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement’s scholarship program will award ten scholarships in 2017, each valued at $10,000. This program is open to high school seniors or students currently enrolled in a two or four year educational program. The applicants must be planning to pursue a career in agriculture and reside in MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s five-state territory. Applications will be accepted beginning September 30. For more information, please call Sandy Wieber at 888.339.3334.
