DIG-IT! Games Partners With National Summer Learning Association, Hosts Community Event and Launches Game Donation Initiative To Eradicate Summer Learning Loss
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) July 14, 2016 -- Dig-IT! Games, an award-winning developer of educational, interactive learning tools has partnered with The National Summer Learning Association (NSLA), to celebrate National Summer Learning Day, an advocacy day led by NSLA to elevate the importance of keeping kids learning, safe, and healthy every summer. As part of a long standing commitment to preventing summer learning loss, Dig-IT! Games is also hosting a community outreach event at Veteran’s Park in Bethesda, Maryland and launching, “Get, One. Give One,” a summer-long initiative to give underserved kids access to game-based learning tools.
Many families and kids don’t consider the impact a summer out of school can have on a student’s long-term educational development. The reality is a summer without educational engagement often leads to a decrease in skill and academic ability - Summer Learning Loss. Research shows that students from lower-income communities are especially at risk for falling behind year after year in core subjects like math and reading. By 5th grade, an underserved student can be as many as 3 years behind.
“Summer Learning Loss is real and affects low-income students disproportionately,” says Suzi Wilczynski, Dig-iT! Games’ founder and CEO. “The good news is, as a former middle school teacher, I know games work. They are the perfect tool to help close the learning gap by building content knowledge, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and so much more. Plus, they’re just fun! Who wouldn’t want to be an archaeologist, search through Maya pyramids or explore space in an engaging game?”
"The National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) is excited to partner with innovative K-12 digital learning companies such as Dig-iT! Games. As a part of our Summer Opportunity partnership with The White House, NSLA promotes the value of anytime, anywhere learning through unique, accessible and interactive learning platforms. Summer is the ideal time to introduce learning that is fun and interactive. With digital platforms like Dig-iT! Games, youth can explore their interests in a way that is engaging to them —through digital gaming,” says Sarah Pitcock, NSLA CEO.
In order to help ensure the kids who need the games get them, Dig-IT! Games is launching a summer-long game donation and distribution initiative, “Get One, Give One” (#gogolearn). Through “Get One, Give One,” Dig-IT! Games will give a low Income student a free game each time someone gets a game. As the name implies, everyone who GETS -- purchases or downloads a game from iOS App Store or from our website http://www.digitgames.com/gogolearn will also be GIVING a kid in need a special high quality game. As an added bonus, the initial donated game will be a sneak peek at Dig-iT! Games’ brand new, flagship science game, ExoTrex™.
