Co-founder of MaiTai Global Susi Mai reflects fondly on the newly formed alliance with the vanguard of athletes behind WKL, the Kite Rider’s Union (KRU), exhibiting the passion behind their latest joint initiative:
“It was a big undertaking but I am extremely proud. For me this is a way of helping the riders disrupt the sport of kiteboarding to try and push forward innovation. There has been some mismanagement in the tour last year so the riders formed the KRU and together we can make sure the sport continues to grow and support the professional athletes who live off the industry.”
MaiTai Global, a coterie of the finest luminaries and influencers the entrepreneurial world has to offer, stands on the forefront of cutting-edge innovation, pushing their limits both physically and mentally. Participants combine their energy, network and resources to help each other achieve professional success, while driving philanthropic activities around the world. The MaiTai Global community has an incredibly accomplished professional network whose zealousness and shared interest brings them together in an extreme environment.
The natural synergy between MaiTai Global and KRU is palpable. Comprised of the top 24 male and top 12 female “Qualified Tour Pro” freestyle kiteboarders in the world, the KRU plays a key role in giving the riders a voice in running the tour, well-deserved recognition on a global platform, and assists in the creation of a fair and successful World Tour.
On the brink of crossing a historical milestone in kiteboarding, WKL and MaiTai Global are transforming the niche sport like none other. With a storied background in the sport herself, and finding her kiteboarding roots in the very same waters of Cabarete 13 years ago, Susi Mai alongside MaiTai Global’s vast network are looking forward to elevating the sport of kiteboarding to new heights in 2016 -- and beyond!
“I did my first ever world cup competition in the very same waters of Cabarete in 2003. Much to mine and everyone else’s surprise, I placed second, almost beating the reigning world champion. It was the debut of my professional kiteboarding career and now I am hoping to give little something back to this incredible sport that took me on the ride of my life. My heart fills with gratitude towards the MaiTai community for pulling together their resources and believing in me. Time to Rock and Roll!” - Susi Mai
