Wimbledon Health Partners’ Findings Make a Sure Fire Case for Echocardiography Testing for Young Athletes
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) July 14, 2016 -- Wimbledon Health Partners, the industry leader in on-site diagnostic testing for athletic programs and physicians, reports that 100% of the cardiac abnormalities identified through the company’s recent echocardiography testing yielded normal EKGs lacking any evidence of disease. Conversely, all possible cardiomyopathies identified in students from EKGs were confirmed false positives from corresponding echocardiograms, eliminating the need to pull those students from sports. The company’s EKG testing also identified students with electrical abnormalities that require treatment.
“Month over month we continue to see a significantly higher proportion of abnormalities identified through our echocardiograms versus EKGs. This is important because any school only performing EKGs on their student body would not pick up the serious abnormalities we are finding in our echoes,” states Bradley J. Artel, MD, FACC, FASE, Chief Medical Officer at Wimbledon Health Partners.
Wimbledon Health Partners applies the Seattle criteria when interpreting student athlete EKGs, resulting in a very low false-positive rate.
“Schools need not worry about the psychological effects on their students due to false-positives because our echocardiography testing can confirm or refute a diagnosis,” says Dr. Artel. “Schools should be concerned about the abnormalities being missed in students by only performing EKGs, or by not testing them at all.”
