Local Child Protective Services Kids Get School Supply Boost From KENS5, Generations Federal Credit Union and Corner Store
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) July 18, 2016 -- Generations Federal Credit Union and Corner Store will partner with CBS affiliate KENS 5 to collect school supplies for the approximately 8,000 Bexar County children who are under the care of Child Protective Services.
Individuals are encouraged to participate by bringing supplies to the KENS 5 studios during the week of August 1 through August 5, donating online at http://www.mygenfcu.org/billselves or dropping off supplies at any of the 14 Generations Federal Credit Union branches between July 18 and August 6. The school supplies will be delivered to the CPS offices on Tuesday, August 9 and case workers will distribute the collected supplies to the children.
“The Bill’s Elves school supply drive is a win-win for everyone involved. It enables Generations to make a tangible difference in our community while helping the children of CPS start the school year off on the right foot. Additionally, the families who take in these children receive little to no financial assistance from the State, so it provides us with the opportunity to lend a hand,” said Steve Schipull, Generations FCU CEO.
CPS has indicated its most needed supplies to be uniforms (polo shirts, khaki and navy shorts, khaki and navy pants, and khaki and navy skirts), tennis shoes of all sizes, and backpacks. A complete listed of supplies can be found by visiting the Generations FCU or KENS 5 websites.
Hosted by KENS 5 Chief Meteorologist, Bill Taylor, the bi-annual event collects school supplies in August and Christmas toys in December. The KENS 5 studios are located at 5400 Fredericksburg Road and volunteers will be out in front of the studios at the 4, 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts during the week of August 1.
“Since its inception in 2011, Bill’s Elves has continued to grow larger and larger every year. The generosity of our members – and the city of San Antonio – continues to shine through,” concluded Schipull.
