Artist Stephen James Harlan Introduces the Newest Offering in his Water's Edge Collection of Original Art
Carolina Beach, NC (PRWEB) July 15, 2016 -- Artist Stephen James Harlan announces the release of his newest original artwork in the Water’s Edge collection. Titled Somewhere It’s Winter, this striking piece draws inspiration from the small harbors of Cuba, where fishing vessels and powerboats create a panorama of stunning light and contrasts.
Rather than recreating a “scene,” Somewhere It’s Winter focuses on the minute details and composition of the boats as the primary focus of its imagery. It is a perfect example of Harlan’s distinctive and original Water’s Edge artwork, and underscores his fascination with harbors and sunsets.
His passion is further demonstrated with dramatic and subtle contrasts using shadows, light, reflections and vivid colors that give these art pieces their special mesmerizing appeal.
Harlan is known for his dramatic use of color, his realistic style, and striking reflections. The feeling of “wanting to go there” or “wanting to be there” are trademarks of Harlan’s unique vision and conception.
“Most of my artwork doesn’t represent real places, but rather places in my imagination,” the artist has noted. “I try to achieve inviting realistic images of places everyone would love to experience – even though they don’t actually exist.”
“During my shows I will often hear collectors make comments like ‘I feel as if I could step right into the painting’ and ‘I wish I could be there,’” Harlan observed.
“They might also look behind the artwork to try to understand the source of the light and reflections,” he added.
Somewhere it’s Winter is available on canvas and aluminum in six sizes (36”x 48”, 30”x 40”, 24” x 32”, 12” x 16” plus panorama sizes of 25” x 50” and 15” x 30”). The edition is limited to 250 per size. Each piece is custom-printed for the collector and signed and numbered by the artist. Certificates of authenticity are also available.
