Crunchy Certified PostgreSQL Receives Level 2 + Certification, Meeting Common Criteria’s Rigid Standards and Organizations’ Security Needs

Crunchy Data

Today’s Common Criteria certification for Crunchy Certified PostgreSQL is an extremely important milestone for the open source database community in general and for PostgreSQL in particular.

Crunchy Data, a leading provider of trusted open source PostgreSQL and PostgreSQL technology, support and training, today announced that Crunchy Certified PostgreSQL, the company’s commercially available distribution of PostgreSQL 9.5, has been awarded Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2+ certification, an international standard for computer security certification. It is the first commercially available 100% open source relational database management system to receive Common Criteria certification.

Governments and other organizations use Common Criteria to assess the security capabilities of technology products. Under Common Criteria, products are evaluated according to strict standards for various features, such as security functionality and the handling of security vulnerabilities. Common Criteria gives customers more confidence in the security features of technology products and helps lead to more informed technology purchasing decisions.

In addition to 100% open source PostgreSQL 9.5, Crunchy Certified PostgreSQL provides enterprise users with popular open source PostgreSQL extensions including:

  • Crunchy MLS PostgreSQL -- An open source module for PostgreSQL that provides deeper integration with Red Hat Enterprise Linux’s SELinux capability to provide an additional layer of security checking above and beyond that normally provided by PostgreSQL.
  • PostgreSQL Audit -- An open source audit log generator that extends the logging capability supported by PostgreSQL by providing detailed logging classes, the ability to control logging at a per-object level, and including fully-qualified object names for logged statements in independent fields of the log output.
  • PostGIS -- An open source spatial database extender to PostgreSQL, allowing PostgreSQL to use geographic information servers as spatially enabled databases.
