Landmark Farmers Market has added new wellness products to their offerings available online & in their brick & mortar store at 2489 Carnes Ave., Memphis, Tn. These new wellness products are formulations of plants & herbs grown organically at their urban farm and they designed them to help people who want relief without habit-forming pharmaceuticals.
Landmark Farmers Market is under the umbrella of Landmark Training Development Company which is a State of Tennessee non-profit organization with IRS 501c3 public charity status, headquartered at 2411 Carnes Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38114. They operate a Youth Urban Farm Training Program for at-risk youth primarily obtained from the juvenile justice system. Over the past five years they have had over 300 youth come into their program and so far none have gone back into the juvenile justice system.
The training encompasses cover crops, compost creation, seed germination, crop rotation, beekeeping and a myriad of "hard work" tasks. The end result is organic products that are made available to retailers including Whole Foods Market. These are exciting times for the folks at Landmark with a feature article in the 2016 Edition of the Tennessee Ag Insider magazine, several television news clips including a feature length segment on the Volunteer Gardener program entitled "Gardening with a Mission". Mike Minnis, who is a project coordinator for Landmark, says "some people call us a rose in the desert", which is an irony because their corporate mission is "to create sustainable agricultural environments in food desert communities".
