American Experiments Program Explores Intersection of Technology, Innovation and Politics
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 19, 2016 -- How can technology and innovation reinvigorate our democracy? American Experiments will convene 17 civic tech and political reform organizations to answer that question on the first day of the Democratic National Convention, July 25th. American Experiments is presented by the University City Science Center and Committee of Seventy and supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The program is divided into two parts. During the American Experiments Showcase, 17 companies or organizations will exhibit their ideas to improve the conduct of democracy in the U.S. The Showcase will take place from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., in Quorum at the University City Science Center, 3711 Market Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
At noon, six organizations from across the country will pitch their ideas to create new ways to improve campaign transparency and dialogue, to promote voter access and turnout, and to make elections more competitive and fair. The American Experiments Challenge will take place in the Microsoft space on the ground floor of 3711 Market Street. Challenge participants include: Azavea (Philadelphia), Code for Philly (Philadelphia), Democracy Works (Brooklyn), Crowdpac (San Francisco), Open Primaries (New York), and BallotReady (Chicago).
American Experiments Showcase judges represent the worlds of tech, politics, entrepreneurship, journalism, and venture capital. Judges include: Stan Freck, Senior Director, Technology & Civic Engagement, Microsoft; Dustin Haisler, Chief Innovation Officer, Governing Magazine; Adam Ambrogi, Election Team Director, Democracy Fund; Danielle Cohn, Director of Entrepreneurial Engagement, Comcast NBCUniversal; Wayne Kimmel, Managing Partner, SeventySix Capital; Robin Carnahan, Director of State and Local Government, 18F.
