Corporate Synergies honored for interactive flip book "The Three Little Piggies and the ACA"

Corporate Synergies, a national insurance and employee benefits brokerage and consultancy, has earned a 2016 APEX Award for the third consecutive year.

APEX Awards for Publication Excellence is an annual national competition that recognizes excellence by professional communicators. The competition is sponsored by Communications Concepts, Inc., an organization that advises professionals who write, edit and manage business communications on best practices.

APEX honored Corporate Synergies in the award category, One-of-a-Kind Publications – Electronic, for its interactive flip book titled The Three Little Piggies & the ACA: A Workday Story by Corporate Synergies. The flip book was conceived and written by the firm’s internal Marketing staff and illustrated by a local artist. The project was a whimsical twist on the traditional fairy tale. It promoted Corporate Synergies’ Affordable Care Act Information Reporting compliance technology, Gatekeeper, to human resource professionals.

The Affordable Care Act’s Information Reporting requirements are complicated and confusing. While the dissemination of traditional guidance is important, the Corporate Synergies Marketing team wanted to try a different way to raise awareness in a format that everyone can relate to. “For us, the format of choice was the familiar childhood fable, ‘The Three Little Pigs,’” said Brian Feeley, Senior Vice President, Marketing for Corporate Synergies. “We used this storybook structure to present ACA requirements in a way that’s easy to understand and that boils down the perils and pitfalls of Information Reporting. Our team reimagined the story and developed a fun, compelling tale, and then executed it perfectly.”

Corporate Synergies has received a total of 6 APEX awards over the past three years. In 2015, Corporate Synergies won the Campaigns, Programs & Plans—Special Purpose category for the wellness campaign developed for client Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group (BBHG). APEX also recognized Corporate Synergies in the Electronic Media—Video Media category for its Wellness Minute video series.

In 2014, the firm earned APEX Excellence Awards in the Magazine, Journal & Tabloid Writing category for the inaugural edition of its trade magazine, The Current Insurance Journal, and the Blog Content category for its weekly Knowledge Center articles, which are authored by more than 30 internal benefits and property & casualty experts. Additionally, Corporate Synergies was one of only 100 entrants to win a Grand Award for its website,, in the 2014 competition.
