Boral® USA Contributes Terre Haute Collection Brick to the Proud Green Home of Louisville
Roswell, Georgia (PRWEB) July 21, 2016 -- Boral® USA, a world-leading manufacturer and supplier of sustainable building products and construction materials, recently provided brick from its LEED Gold certified Terre Haute plant for The Proud Green Home of Louisville, part of the sustainable Norton Commons community in Kentucky’s largest city. Proud Green Homes are high-performance, media showcase homes designed to increase comfort, health, and durability.
Known as Su Verde (Italian for ‘About Green’), the deep green project was designed by architect Clive Pohl of Lexington, Kentucky-based Pohl Rosa Pohl, and constructed by Louisville’s Sy Safi of UberGreen Spaces & Homes. It will seek to be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, the National Association of Home Builders Green Building Standard and the Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready program as a LEED Platinum Passive House.
In order to achieve these certifications, Su Verde builders are using energy-efficient, sustainable building materials including foam insulation in the footers and foundation of the home, Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) for the wall assembly, geothermal heating and cooling, and sustainably manufactured Boral Bricks.
“When the opportunity presented itself, we were extremely excited to contribute to this high-performance project,” said Crysta Thomas, Director of Marketing, Boral Cladding Division. “The Proud Green Home of Louisville perfectly encapsulates Boral’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and its benefits for builders and homeowners.”
For this project, Boral supplied over 35,000 Vintage Port bricks from the Terre Haute Collection. The material was made at its Terre Haute, Indiana, manufacturing facility – the only brick plant in the United States to receive the LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The prestigious LEED Gold certification recognizes the plant’s use of methane gas from a nearby landfill as an alternative fuel source. In addition, the facility is a zero-waste operation where nearly all materials used are recycled into new brick, and shale used in the manufacturing process is reclaimed from a nearby coal mining property.
