Morgan & Morgan Launches Deaf and Disability Rights Unit, Aims to Address Accessibility Concerns in the Legal System and the Community
Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) July 26, 2016 -- National plaintiffs-only law firm Morgan & Morgan has launched the Deaf and Disability Rights Unit.
The contingency-fee practice offers legal counsel to persons with disabilities who have faced discrimination, including denial of services, effective communication and access to private and public entities.
The Deaf and Disability Rights Unit is led by attorney Sharon Caserta, legal assistant Christine Stevens, and paralegal Amanda Brandi.
Caserta worked for many years as a certified American Sign Language interpreter in New England specializing in legal interpreting. Since graduating from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2005, she has dedicated her professional life to representing persons with disabilities.
Stevens, a graduate of Gallaudet University, has worked with Caserta for five years to help those with disabilities fight discrimination and other injustices.
To accompany the practice’s launch, Morgan & Morgan released a digital video ad featuring Caserta, Stevens and Brandi. The ad is provided in American Sign Language, and has been interpreted for those who do not know ASL.
The American with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities, and sets forth requirements to ensure equal access and opportunities in public and private services. It also prohibits private and public entities from failing to offer reasonable accommodations which allow persons with disabilities to equitably access services and integrate into their communities.
The Morgan & Morgan Deaf and Disability Rights Unit aims to provide a personalized path to justice for people who, due to a lack of accessibility and specialized legal assistance, may typically be underserved by the legal system.
