Micom Expands its Corrosion Testing Laboratory
(PRWEB) August 04, 2016 -- Micom Laboratories is pleased to announce that it recently purchased an additional Q-Fog CCT 1100 corrosion tester. As a leading material testing laboratory, this extra unit will enable Micom to accommodate an increasing demand for corrosion tests as well as accelerated aging tests using simulated real world atmospheric conditions.
Testing for corrosion in a laboratory can be performed using numerous tests. Micom Laboratories uses ASTM B117 and ASTM G-85 as standard practices for corrosion testing. ASTM B117 provides guidelines as to the operation of a salt spray fog apparatus under static conditions whereas ASTM G85 also provides guidelines under cyclic conditions.
Using a salt spray fog corrosion tester, such as the Q-Fog CCT 1100, various metals and coated metal samples are exposed to different atmospheric conditions and cycles created and managed in a controlled environment.
Preventing corrosion is a critical step in product design and manufacturing. Material’s exposure to different environmental conditions will contribute to the material’s degradation and wear. For these reasons, using the ASTM B117 and ASTM G85 standards for corrosion testing is a valuable tool that helps manufacturers make sure that their products and goods are designed with the optimum protection against metal degradation.
