MaiTai x World Kiteboarding League’s Inaugural Cabarete Freestyle Invitational Makes Monumental Waves
Cabarete, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (PRWEB) July 29, 2016 -- Mai Tai Global x the World Kiteboarding League’s first collaborative venture, the MaiTai Cabarete Freestyle Invitational came to a tremendous finish Sunday July 17th, 2016 off the coast of the beachside village of Cabarete, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Created by the riders for the riders, the five-day contest showcased the top kiteboarders in the world, elevating the sport to unimaginable heights at the international level.
Narrowed down from a pool of 42 men and women, the last day of the Cabarete Freestyle began with a four-woman heat, where the unofficial queen of the event, Brazilian rider and former World Champion Bruna Kajiya rode with focus and determination to capture a first place finish with Paula Novotna in 2nd and Hannah Whiteley in 3rd.
Immediately following the feverish Women’s finals, the men took to the waves one last time in the hotly-contested six-man heat. Intensity built throughout the final contest as scoring remained impossibly tight, leaving crowds and competitors alike anxiously awaiting the results to see who would triumph on top. The men’s finals culminated with the hometown hero Luis Alberto Cruz snagging the top spot with an impressive Hinterberger mobe 7 that catapulted him to a first place finish atop the podium joined by Carlos Mario (2nd) and Liam Whaley (3rd).

Nothing short of spectacular, the inaugural MaiTai Cabarete closed the week on a high note. As the first official stop on WKL’s Clean Ocean Project Tour for freestyle, big air and waves, the MaiTai Cabarete Freestyle Invitational upheld their promise to work towards a better planet for all to enjoy in the generations to come. The event promoted sustainability through minimizing the use of plastic throughout the event, in addition to hosting an auction featuring a painting by local artist Samantha Chilvers to raise money for the cause.
