FOBR’s mission is to provide best in class information, products, and services to the family owned business community.

Family Owned Business Resources (FOBR) has launched a web portal to and for the world of family owned business. The family owned business is a time honored and treasured institution across the globe and may account for as much as 80% of all businesses, 50% of the U.S. gross domestic product, 60% of the country's employment, and at least 78% of all new job creation.
Unfortunately, research shows that only 30 percent of all family-owned businesses survive into the second generation and only 12 percent will survive into the third generation leaving only 3 percent of all family businesses operating at the fourth generation and beyond.
FOBR was founded and developed with the appreciation that many family businesses have neither the time nor financial resources to engage a family advisor, but they still have the need for information and assistance. FOBR’s mission is to provide best in class information, products, and services to the family owned business community.
Founder, Renée Montoya Lado, is an organizational development consultant and family business advisor with thirty years of experience advising small, mid-range and large privately held and public companies in a broad range of fields, including manufacturing, corporate real estate, hospitality, technology and insurance. She first discovered the need for this kind of resource while consulting with her clients in her firm, Strategic Designs for Learning which she founded in 1999.
Traditionally, the services of family business advising have been exclusive to those family businesses that have achieved a level of success to afford them. While the challenges and opportunities faced by large family businesses are certainly unique, these same challenges and opportunities impact organizations of every size and budget. FOBR’s commitment is to meet the needs of each family business right where they are, here and now. Family business stakeholders can use the website as an a la carte instant learning option in the categories of estate, succession, communication, business, emotional intelligence, family stories, and much more.
Ongoing research and development will drive updates to the site, as well as a growing selection of unique professional services that range from predictive and descriptive assessments and coaching to in-person learning and workshops in Denver. FOBR will continue to produce monthly book reviews in the field of family owned business as well as increase their partnership with other organizations that serve their constituents.
