PYA will appear in an upcoming “Voices in America” short-form documentary for distribution to approximately 200 public television stations nationwide. The stand-alone series segment spotlights the devastating human consequences of the antibiotic-resistance problem and explores the Firm’s passion for making a difference in the fight against this mounting crisis. To preview a clip from the upcoming documentary, visit the PYA website.

Hosted by legendary actor James Earl Jones, the documentary will feature PYA founder and CEO Ed Pershing and Infectious Disease Specialist James M. Keegan, M.D. The misuse of antibiotic drugs has led to the loss of an estimated 23,000 lives per year in the U.S., a number only expected to rise if evidence-based antibiotic stewardship practices are not established in hospitals, critical access hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare facilities.

“Antibiotic resistance is a growing issue, and we need to reverse the trend of antibiotic prescription. Doing so is a part of PYA’s passion, and we hope to bring about better health for our friends, families, and entire nation,” said Ed Pershing.

In addition to highlighting the problem of antibiotic resistance through “Voices in America,” PYA’s antibiotic stewardship program (ASP) team works to strengthen antibiotic initiatives and combat hospital-acquired infections, including Clostridium difficile. The team is committed to assisting hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other organizations in becoming compliant with the January 2017 Joint Commission ASP standard and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requirement anticipated later next year. Along with this clinical work, the ASP team frequently speaks before healthcare organizations and conferences, conducts webinars, and offers expert insight in industry publications. PYA recently released a white paper, “The Compelling Case for Redefining the Use of Antibiotics,” which campaigns for reducing antibiotic usage through the implementation of evidence-based antibiotic stewardship practices. The paper outlines the advantages and foundations of a successful ASP, highlighting proven and powerful clinical successes through case studies.

With more than 20 years of ASP experience and a record of proven results, PYA’s interdisciplinary team of infectious disease specialists, medical doctors, RNs, pharmacists, and other executives focuses on developing and refining single-facility and system-wide, community-based ASP initiatives, providing essential, life-saving treatment protocols for patients.
