Lumio Labs Unveils AccuRate, An iPhone Case to Help Prevent Hypertension
NEW TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN (PRWEB) August 08, 2016 -- Lumio Labs is developing a lightweight cell phone case that reads blood pressure and heart rate vitals and provides continuous monitoring, called AccuRate. The case is designed to be the most convenient and accurate blood pressure monitoring tool on the market to help people stay in tune with their health and track early warning signs and long-term progress of hypertension.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 70 million American adults have high blood pressure—that’s 1 of every 3 adults and high blood pressure costs the nation $46 billion each year, including the cost of health care services, medications, and missed days of work. One of the best ways to prevent high blood pressure and remain healthy while living with it is through frequent monitoring, and what do we have on us the most? Our iPhones.
“Right now, when it comes to monitoring your blood pressure, the market consists of bulky devices that are inconvenient or cuffless solutions that aren’t always accurate,” said Stanley Wang, Co-Founder of Lumio Labs. “We wanted to create a tool that anyone can use wherever they are so why not combine blood pressure and heart rate monitoring with a device we already have readily incorporated into our daily lives?”
How is Accurate Different
- Continuous Data. AccuRate provides continuous monitoring that allows the user to analyze data over weeks and months, making it possible to catch early signs of hypertension and long-term progress.
- Cuffless. Without using a bulky cuff, AccuRate uses sensors with Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) technology to provide data more accurate than any competitor anywhere, anytime.
- Connected. Not only does the AccuRate app connect across all smart devices, but friends and family can monitor the data remotely - especially helpful for people with aging parents or looking for peace-of-mind.
- Convenient. Avoid carrying another device or thinking about taking your vitals. The final version of AccuRate will send alerts and push notifications, as well as track and integrate fitness and sleeping data - aggregating all the user’s health data in one place that’s with them all the time.
“When thinking about the functions of AccuRate, we really wanted to solve the problem of people feeling concerned about the health of their loved ones, especially if they live far away,” says, Wang. “Being able to access AccuRate’s data remotely through a web browser or the app will for the first time, start bridging the gap between people’s health and will be able to provide a sense of comfort for the person on the receiving end. We think that’s pretty powerful.”
Clinical trials are already underway in Taiwan and have proven to be successful with results, including Institutional Review Board at Hospital for 120 cases and more in process. Additional clinical trials will begin in the U.S. starting December 2016 (If the FDA requests it).
Availability
Lumio Labs is launching an Indiegogo campaign on August 8, 2016 to further the product development and complete more than 1,000 clinical trials. Consumers who purchase the product through the campaign will be eligible to receive AccuRate early in November 2016, which will be available for iOS and the case will fit the iPhone 6/6S Plus. The final version of AccuRate will sell at retail for between $129 - $149.
