Berwyn, PA (PRWEB) August 08, 2016
SkillSurvey, Inc., the provider of cloud-based reference checking and credentialing solutions that deliver faster, more reliable insights, today released findings from a new survey on the state of today’s medical credentialing processes. SkillSurvey found that two in three credentialing processes (67%) are taking longer than five to six weeks to credential a clinician.
The survey of nearly 500 healthcare industry leaders was intended to discover the impact credentialing delays and inefficiencies have on a healthcare organization’s bottom line. Notably, more than half of all U.S. states now recognize negligent credentialing as a reason for litigation against healthcare organizations.
“As our study shows, the traditional credentialing process is outdated and slow. While waiting to be fully credentialed, top medical talent sits on the bench, negatively affecting the hospital revenue cycle,” said Ray Bixler, President and CEO of SkillSurvey. “Our survey shows that one in three job applicants are not satisfied with their credentialing experience. Credentialing is long overdue for an upgrade.”
The SkillSurvey survey also revealed the following key findings:
- 62% of respondents said it takes from one to three weeks for peer references to respond to traditional credentialing requests
- 50% of respondents report that it takes one to two weeks to verify a hospital affiliation
- Nine in ten organizations believe it is critical to continue improving the applicant onboarding experience within the credentialing process
SkillSurvey’s Credential OnDemandTM is an automated online solution that enables medical staff services teams, peer references and the applicant themselves to transform the time-consuming, manual process of credentialing into a simple electronic experience that is accessible anywhere at any time from a mobile device, tablet or computer. By automating peer reference feedback, hospital affiliation verifications, and other key credentialing tasks, customers are seeing completed forms returned in an average of 4-5 days.
“The hardships felt by those we surveyed portray the widespread issue of delays and inefficiencies in the hospital hiring process,” said Bixler. “By creating a solution that streamlines the credentialing process, we hope to boost hospital bottom lines and give them a competitive edge.”
