Torrance Unified School District Partners with PowerSchool for a New Student Information System and to Launch Online Registration
Folsom, CA (PRWEB) August 10, 2016 -- PowerSchool has been selected by California’s Torrance Unified School District to replace the district’s student information system (SIS) and provide an online solution for student enrollment and registration. As part of PowerSchool’s Unified Classroom, both solutions will streamline processes for this 24,400-student district, providing one comprehensive platform for school staff, teachers, and families to use for managing attendance, assignments, grades, enrollment, and registration.
“We have an antiquated student information system in place that isn’t easily accessible by everyone at the district,” said Gil Mara, Chief Educational Technology and Information Services Officer at Torrance Unified School District. “Compared to other products on the market, PowerSchool has the most advanced platform with its modern and sleek design, it is completely web-based, and device-agnostic—making it easy to deploy for an entire school community.”
The intuitive functionality within the PowerSchool SIS provides school administrators, parents, and students with instant visibility to assignments, scores, grades, comments, and progress toward each standard. PowerSchool provides district families with the ability to monitor student proficiency on standards and receive immediate, real-time alerts specific to their child through innovative tools, including an online parent portal and mobile app.
“Parents expect real-time data on what assignments are due and what resources they have in order to help their children succeed,” notes Mara. “PowerSchool will improve communication and collaboration between our families and school staff so that we can collectively drive student growth.”
The Enterprise Reporting tool will allow staff to easily access data for running reports, improving efficiency throughout the district. The digital gradebook, PowerTeacher Pro, displays a user-friendly interface, providing educators with an intuitive tool that’s easy to navigate for managing their day-to-day tasks, putting the focus back on instructional time.
PowerSchool Registration will replace a 20-30-page paper packet that families have had to fill out each year for students, eliminating an extensive amount of data entry for school staff. “Parents were wondering why they had to fill out the same information over and over again. It’s not efficient and we use too much paper on a yearly basis to complete this process,” stated Mara.
The electronic format allows families who have more than one child in the district to ‘snap’ data from one student to another. SmartForm™ technology, an intuitive tool built into the solution, collects relevant data based on previously entered information or choices (grade, activities, medical history, etc.). The data submitted by families is reviewed, polished, and formatted to meet district policies and then delivered into the SIS, resulting in accurate and up-to-date records on the first day of school.
“We were looking for a provider that would be able to meet our current needs as well as accommodate us in the future,” said Mara. “PowerSchool has such a powerful platform backed by a lot of support in design and development, ensuring that the solutions we implement will provide for our school community for years to come.”
