Registration is open for the Roller Coaster Race, a 10K race and 5K run/walk set to take place at Lake Compounce New England’s Family Theme and Water Park in Bristol, Connecticut, on Sunday, September 4. As featured in Runner’s World magazine, the family-friendly event encourages fitness and entertainment for all skill levels and ages in conjunction with the original-concept roller coaster event, Roller Coaster Ride.

The 10K race and 5K run/walk will take place at 8:30 am, prior to the park opening. The race courses run through and around Lake Compounce, the oldest continuously-operating amusement park in America. The race features beautiful up-close views of the park’s roller coasters and rides and the surrounding scenery in Bristol and neighboring Southington. Top finishers in the 10K race will earn cash prizes.

Roller coaster enthusiasts and runners alike can also sign up for the optional Roller Coaster Ride. Registered participants can earn a medal when they ride a cumulative “5K ride distance” along the tracks of Lake Compounce’s five thrilling coasters, including the new Phobia Phear Coaster and Boulder Dash, the #1 rated wooden roller coaster in the world.

Participants can register for a run, the Roller Coaster Ride event, or both. Every event registration includes free admission to the theme park, free parking, a commemorative tech t-shirt, and a race finisher medal.

Roller Coaster Race supports the following local charities: Autism Speaks- New England, SYTA Running for Youth, and the National Roller Coaster Museum & Archives.

Adam Slate, Roller Coaster Race Director, says, “Lake Compounce is a beautiful, historic venue and an ideal setting for the Roller Coaster Race. The park is home to a host of amazing attractions that bring people from all over the New England to this gorgeous park.”

“We are thrilled to be hosting the Roller Coaster Race here at Lake Compounce,” says Jerry Brick, Lake Compounce general manager. “For generations, people have been spending time with their families and friends at the park. Now, they’ll have the opportunity to experience it in a whole new way, racing through the park, plus adding an additional experience of tracking the same mileage on the roller coasters- including the new Phobia Phear coaster. It’s the the perfect way to combine fun and fitness into one unique, adrenaline-charged experience.”
