This initiative benefits two causes that are very important to us: childhood education and conservation.
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) August 14, 2016
Zebra Pen Corp., a global leader in the writing instrument category, has joined with Unite for Literacy in the development of First Steps, an e-book about a newborn Grevy’s Zebra and the scientist studying the newborn and its mother. Geared towards beginning readers, First Steps is one of the newest additions to Unite for Literacy’s digital library.
Zebra Pen Corp. is a continuing supporter of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and their efforts to protect the Grevy’s Zebra—an endangered species. Unite for Literacy, also involved with the AZA, is focused on bringing the benefits and joys of reading to beginning readers who might not have easy access to books.
“The collaboration on this e-book with Unite for Literacy is very exciting,” said Ken Newman, Director of Marketing at Zebra Pen Corporation. “This initiative benefits two causes that are very important to us: childhood education and conservation.”
First Steps, along with dozens of other e-books, can be found at http://www.UniteforLiteracy.com. The U.S. Grevy’s Zebra Trust program is based at the Saint Louis Zoo, which provided a wonderful opportunity to expose this book and the collaborative spirit to young readers in a fun environment. As part of “Jungle Boogie,” the Saint Louis Zoo’s family friendly Friday night event, Zebra Pen Corp. and zoo staff provided patrons with educational materials about conservation, shared First Steps, and gave away free products from Zebra Pen’s school-focused line of products.
“It was a wonderful evening,” Newman said. “We had the opportunity to support the zoo’s conservation education efforts, and share the First Steps e-book with beginning readers. We are very grateful to the Saint Louis Zoo, the AZA, and Unite for Literacy.”
The Saint Louis Zoo and Zebra Pen also have plans to share the e-book with kindergarten students at local schools in St. Louis, and in communities near Zebra Pen Corp. facilities in Northern New Jersey.
